Typhoon Bolaven is due to hit busan this evening so we're all bracing for it. Here's a BBC article on it: BBC: Typhoon Bolaven

JOB UPDATE

So i've done all my homework and research looking for a decent teaching position, and finally something possible has come up.
The safest teaching position you can have in Korea is in a public school. By this I mean less risk of being exploited, taken advantage of, or losing your job. The public schools are set up and funded by the government so it's pretty robust.
Anyway they normally do an intake of teachers around this time of year, but you're supposed to have applied back in May. So I went and talked to the guys in charge of the application process and they put me in contact with someone who has helped me to apply for the waiting list - basically if someone drops out or resigns I get to fill their spot.
So I've had 2 successful interviews and now I am waiting to hear If I am officially on the waiting list. And then I have to hope someone drops out...
It's quite a small chance, but i'm strangely confident that it's all going to work out.
Please keep praying

Danny

JAPAN

My 90 days were up and still no Job so I took a little trip to Japan! Originally I intended to go to Taiwan, but it was just a bit too expensive. But then Eun-Mi's eldest brother Seong-Jun offered to take me to Japan and pay for everything! A huge blessing
So we took a 3 boat crossing to the city of Fukuoka. I like Japan, it reminds me of the UK, a small but established island with a constitutional monarchy, quiet, polite, narrow roads, driving on the left, and everything is of a sensible size (e.g. Food).
We visited a couple of hot spots and also did some shopping (Seong-Jun's girlfriend enjoys shopping), then we stayed at a nice hotel, did some more shopping and then went back to Korea haha.
I really enjoyed though, it was nice to be a tourist and not a resident. There was a sudden storm which was quite exciting while we were at the beach! and I got to enjoy lots of delicious Japanese food.

BIRTHDAYS

It was both Eun-mi's sister (Eun-hee) and mother's birthday this week. So we went out for a meal with the whole family, including baby Chaee.

GOING TO THE SEA SIDE

Even though Busan is a coastal city I haven't found much time to visit the beach. Last week however, I was pried away from my Job hunting/teacher training to go and enjoy the beach with some friends.
It was actually quite an important time since I'm still struggling to find strong friendships and having some good old fun is a good way of developing relationships, and it doesn't require much spoken language.
I got really sunburnt though.

TEACHING JOBS

When people say that there are plenty of teaching jobs available in Korea they're not wrong... but when you're looking for a job at a specific time of year, in a specific location within a specific city, at specific working hours... it really narrows down the results.

I need a job soon

HOLIDAY

Eun-mi had 3 days holiday for the summer, not much but we made the most of it.
First we went to the country for 2 days, we stayed with an elderly couple who were really lovely and fed us well. We spent most of the day by a little river/stream getting very sun burnt and ended up going for a swim in our clothes.
It was really nice to just get out of the city and not have to rush around. It was a much needed rest for the both of us.
The for our final day we went to a water park with Eun-mi's mother and sister, I had to wear long sleeves, a t-shirt, and a hat to avoid getting anymore burnt. The best thing about it was probably the giant wave machine! these were like surfing size waves, and everyone had to wear lifejackets haha.
Here are some of our holiday snaps!
